HIV/AIDS incidences in East Africa on increase

 

New findings released by Uganda, one of the five countries in East Africa indicate that HIV/AIDS incidences in the region have risen to 6.7%. Uganda’s Ministry of health reveals that HIV/AIDS cases have risen to 6.7% up from 6.4%.

The research findings done in 2004/5 show that at least two million of Uganda’s 30 million population is infected with HIV/a/AIDS.  According to the findings, a total of 7.7% of Ugandans infected with HIV are women and only 5.6% of HIV infected Ugandans are men.

The report further indicates that in 2005 the number of HIV-positive people in Uganda stood at 1.1 million. Rev. Moses Luswata, Uganda’s HIV country director says that the messages about HIV spread are yet to reach all people.

He says that the research they carried out found that many people are ignorant about the virus.
