NRM signs agreement to work with FDC

 

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has accepted to work with the main opposition parties on matters of national development.

The NRM party officials and the main opposition political parties are currently in talks in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania under the auspices of the Commonwealth.

The Uganda’s ruling party, NRM and the main opposition parties represented in Parliament, including Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Democratic Party (DP), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Justice Forum (Jeema) and the Conservative party (cp) signed the memorandum of working together at a three-day forum for governing and opposition parties in East Africa.

The NRM team was led by Uganda’s Information and Communication Technology minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda. The FDC was represented by its secretary general Alice Alaso, the Democratic Party was represented by its president Norbert Mao, while Omar Kalinge-Nnyago represented Jeema and UPC was represented by its president Dr Olara Otunnu.

The forum was addressed by a host of eminent political figures such as the former Ghana President Jerry Rawlings, Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, Speaker of Rwanda’s National Assembly Rose Mukantabana and Commonwealth Deputy-Secretary General, Mwasekgoa Masire-Mwamba among others. The meeting opened door on Monday and it is expected to close on Wednesday.
