Makerere University Vice Chancellors on strike

Makerere University candidates vying for the post of Vice Chancellor are on strike. They have shunned the last interviewing session protesting the way it was conducted. Among the candidates, it was only Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba who accepted to be interviewed. Other candidates in the race are Professors Tonny Oyana, Barnabas Nawangwe, Edward Kirumura, Eli Katunguka, Augustus Nuwagaba and John Ddumba-Ssentamu. The Professors demanded for the immediate resignation of Prof. Baryamureeba as acting Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Baryamureeba on Monday promised to revamp Makerere University community if he is re-appointed, as the University Vice Chancellor.

“If I am re-appointed, i will revamp the students’ welfare and academic standards, start a health insurance scheme for staff, improve; wages, infrastructure, financial management, resource mobilisation, and research,” Baryamureeba told journalists at Makerere this morning.

Baryamureeba vows to diversify the university’s income generation, increase the university’s visibility, and to also ensure that Makerere University stops registering deficits.
