Court orders rebel MPs to stay in parliament

The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the NRM rebel MPs to stay in Parliament until their final determination of the petition challenging the ruling of the Speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga that the legislators cannot vacate parliament is complete.

Today’s court ruling stays earlier orders of the Constitutional Court that was requiring rebel MPs  to be away from Parliament until their appeal in Supreme Court is determined.

The ruling was read today by Justice Galdino Okello. The rebel MPs petitioned the Supreme Court following the September 6 ruling in which majority of the justices issued an interim order directing the Speaker of Parliament through the Attorney General (AG) to block the rebel MPs from accessing parliamentary business. The rebel MPs are Theodore Ssekikubo of Lwemiyaga, Wilfred Niwagaba of Ndorwa East, Mohammed Nsereko of Kampala Central and Barnabas Tinkasiimire of Buyaga.
