Kingdom activities teach people to think beyond themselves

Thousands of right thinking members of the Ugandan community and the international world at large are impressed by Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s involvement in the ”Bulungi Bwansi” literally meaning (community work) or service above self. Ronald Muwenda Mutebi is the king (Kabaka) of Buganda, a historical kingdom in the current day Uganda.

Remember while we were still kids, leaders in our different regions of origin would sound drums to moblise people to do communual work. In traditional Buganda those drums were called ”sagala agalamidde.” The moment people heard those drums they had to gather at the Kitawuluzi. From here we would go with hoes, slashers and pangs. We would clear the roads, wells, etc. those who didn’t engage physically, were required to pay some money.

Communal work taught people to think beyond themselves. That is why leaders who grew in such a society would not make shoddy works like the poor roads, hospitals, schools. They never stole taxpayers’ money and every person was concerned about the development of the community. While touring KyagweCounty on Tuesday, the Kabaka of Buganda said he was disappointed that the media seems not interested in promoting Bulungi bwansi.
