Mbidde promises to sponsor DP candidates in general elections

It seems the members of the Democratic Party (DP) are all smiles after one of Uganda’s representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Hon. Mukasa Fred Mbidde pledged to meet their campaign costs during the forthcoming 2016 general elections. Mbidde says his role now is to create linkages between world power centres and the alternative leadership of DP.

He says the linkages are calculated to catapult DP leadership into governance of Uganda. “That is my job now. I don’t want to look at a party (DP) incapable of competing for power merely because its leaders and candidates have zero balance on their bank accounts,” he says. Mbidde was speaking to our reporters in an interview at his law chambers of ‘Mbidde and company advocates’ in Kampala.

He says that it is obscene for opposition leaders to campaign using personal resources and yet African governments including Uganda don’t fund opposition parties for fear of competitions.
