The electoral commission has approved the programme for the by-election of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukanga, in Isingiro district and for elections and by-elections at various local government council levels where vacancies exist in Bukanga.
The election follows the death of Gregory Matovu, the directly elected MP for Bukanga and the subsequent notification by the clerk to Uganda parliament of a vacancy in the legislature.
The electoral commission Secretary, Sam Rwakoojo told Ultimate Media that the commission has asked political parties to submit lists of names for accreditation as observers in the election process. The by-election programme will run from October 18th to November 26th, 2013. November 26th is the polling day and tallying of results.
