speaker orders probe into bribes to MPS for GMOs bill passing

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca orders for investigations against MPs
over allegations that some legislators received bribes to support the
Biotechnology Bill that seeks to promote use of Genetically Modified
Organisms (GMOs) in Uganda.
This is the second consecutive investigation Kadaga is calling against
MPs for alleged bribery in a move that appears intended to stave off
criticism against Parliament dogged by corruption and bribery
allegations.
Yesterday Kadaga also directed the rules, Discipline and Privileges
Committee to investigate claims of bribery against MPs by a renown
local entrepreneur to block the energy report that calls for
termination of Umeme contract
Now Rubaga South MP and also shadow Minister for Environment Ken
Lukyamuzi brought to the attention of Kadaga allegations of bribery
against MPs to pass the Biotechnology bill currently shrouded in
controversy.
The privately sponsored Bill has received significant opposition in
parliament but Agriculture officials mainly from National Agriculture
Research Organisation (NARO) and National Crops Resources Research
Institute (NACRRI) have intensified lobbying for the adoption of the
Bill.
But Kadaga says continued allegations of bribery against MPs puts the
integrity of Parliament into disrepute directing the Rules Committee
to investigate the claims to establish their authenticity.
