Dr.Ndyanabangi calls for mps to back Tobacco bill

Tobacco control focal person in the ministry of health Dr. Sheila Ndyanabangi says that tobacco use is the root cause off all non-communicable diseases including cancer, heart attack, stroke, impotence, diabetes, asthma among others.

Addressing a press conference in Kampala, Ndyanabangi said that tobacco intake worsens conditions of HIV/AIDS and T.B infected persons.
She said that scientific evidence has it that touching and using it in any form is very dangerous to human health.

Dr. Ndyanabangi said that tobacco use in Uganda stands at 16 percent for males and 3 percent for females.

She further revealed that 19 percent of secondary school students and about 35 percent of students in tertiary institutions smoke which is a dangerous trend.

The member of parliament for kinkizi East Dr. Chris Baryomunsi said that the tobacco bill should be supported by all mps because it seeks to regulate the manufacture, sale, labeling, promotion advertising and sponsorship of tobacco products.
