a section of mps disown extension of term of office for political leaders.

A section of MPs is attacking their colleagues who are pushing for
the extension of the election of political leaders by two years, as
having selfish interests.
This section of Mps told journalists at parliament that those mps supporting term extension fear to face their voters because have not legislated as asked by them.

Mps such as Henry Musasizi, Peter Ogwang , and Barnabas Tinkasimire, Abid Chemaswet
said that they will not support any proposal that abrogates the
constitution requires politicians to be in office for only five
years.
Tinkasimiire said that those who are weak on the ground are the ones backing such a move.
The member of parliament for Pallisa county Jacob Polot said that those also advancing the IDs and national census issues for extension does not give better ground because they do not warrant parliament extension because they are both budgeted for programs and said that some mps might be panicking because they have not satisfied their voters.
Article 77(4) of the Constitution says Parliament can only be extended
where there exists a state of war or emergency which would prevent a
normal election from being held.
The Mps remarks follow today’s media reports that some MPs were
planning a private members bill to extend the election for five years.

However those who support the proposal such as Nyakekyo Annet and
ssekitoleko Kafeero the one fronting the proposal say that seven
years is adequate for them to give accountability to the electorates.

Ssekitoleko says since the time he started this move to extend the
elections he has received a number of calls from political leaders
supporting him.
