Belgium government donates 60 billion

Belgium government has donated 60 billion shillings towards promoting technical and vocational training in the country.

This was in Kole district at Abilonino tutors’ college where ministers including Rebecca Otengo [northern Uganda], Jessica Alupo [education and sports] together with a line of dignitaries led by Belgian Ambassador to Uganda Allen Ansen .

This school trains tutors in vocational and technical education but it has been lacking enough infrastructure and equipment

The minister of Education Jesica Alupo said that that the donation by Belgium government will be used to benefit four colleges in Uganda for infrastructure development.

She says Uganda’s technical and vocational education sector has suffered shortage of funding and stigma since colonial times with many Ugandans viewing it as providing dirty work meant for illiterates.
She said that this sector is picking up and is seen as the only alternative to addressing unemployment in the country.

Ansen stated that this contribution is meant to foster employment in Uganda by supporting technical education.

He commended the high quality work by tutors and trainees saying with the construction of new infrastructure, the quality will greatly improve.
The minister for northern Uganda Rebecca Otengo commended Belgium for partnering with Uganda to rescue abducted kids during the days of LRA.
