The number of pioneer students to benefit from the loan scheme in the year 2014 is 5,000 up from 1,000. The ministry of education and sports has announced that the number of students on loan scheme is going to exceed that of students on government scholarship scheme.

The minister of education Jessica Alupo says the government is to give each student ush4m per year. The 4 millions will cover students’ tuition, research fees, accommodation, and meals. President Museveni will launch the students loan scheme on Tuesday next week.

The loan will be only restricted to Ugandan students enrolled to study academic courses at universities accredited by the national council for higher education. The loans would only be given to students on courses considered very critical to national development. The students will clear the loan one year after their graduation.
