uganda still lacks democracy

A new report released today dubbed Uganda Democracy Audit indicates that the rule of democracy is till lacking in the country.

The research conducted by Human Rights Network –Uganda (HURINET) in fifty districts across the country in the last seven years indicates that 60% of Ugandans are not satisfied by the level of democracy in the country.

the report indicates that the high level of corruption, influence of the judicially and the parliament as well as limiting people from major freedoms including that of letting them freely air out their views have been the major contributors to the shrinking democracy in the country.

According to Patrick Tumwire, the head of research Advocacy at HURINET-U, the government and other stakeholders have to do some improvement in promoting the rule of democracy in the country.

Godber Tumushabe, the chief executive Officer Technology Frontiers Education Center and a reknown key analysist is concerned that the long time built institutions like Judiciary, police, parliament among others have not been strong enough to serve the public but rather influenced by an individual who is the president only looking at the survival of his regime than looking at the progress of the country

Godber has advised the public to desist fear and engage government on how they want to be governed as this is the only way they are to ensure better service delivery
