Museveni mourns Mpungu

 

President Museveni has described the late Lawyer Paul Mpungu as suave and debonair. Museveni says late Mpungu was committed to his job.

Museveni in a condolence message read for him by Vice President Edward Sekandi at Lubaga Cathedral in Kampala on Tuesday said Mpungu was one person gifted with the best brains in the legal practice and always preferred dialogue whenever faced with contentious issues and challenges.

Museveni called upon the children of late Mpungu to carry on his legacy of incorruptible character exhibited by their father.

Mpungu was one of the prominent lawyers at Uganda’s Independence after qualifying with a Bachelor of Laws Degree at Bombay University – India in 1961. He joined the late Benedict Kiwanuka and when the latter was appointed Uganda’s fist African Chief Justice, Mpungu took over the firm until he established his chambers in partnership with his uncle, Anthony Sserubiri and later Joseph Balikuddembe.

Mpungu worked as a Barrister in Bangalore – India and later as a Chief Magistrate of Masaka. The deceased suffered a stroke in 2005 following a night attack by armed thugs. Mpungu was buried at his accestral home in Mpigi.
