uganda tourism Board closure of Air uganda affects tourism potential in uganda

The Uganda Tourism Board has indicated that the recent suspension of Air Uganda is to affect the country’s tourism potential.
Appearing before the Trade and Tourism Committee of parliament the head of marketing and Public Relations Edwin Muzahwe says that the suspension of Air Uganda is to worsen the flight charges from Kenya to Uganda which will subsequently limit the number of guests into the country.
Muzahwe stressed the need for Uganda to have its national carrier that would ensure potential tourists to the country are not diverted to other tourism destinations either intentionally by other countries or because of flight issues.
The Kenya-Uganda route is currently regarded as the shortly and most expensive aviation route in the entire world.

Muzahwe assured the Parliamentary committee that despite an increase in the budgetary allocation to the Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda’s Tourism cannot be promoted at the scale of its neighboring countries that are well facilitated.

The Executive Officer of the Uganda Tourism Board Stephen Asiimwe says that there a comprehensive Market strategy for the country tourism that will go beyond promoting the traditional tourism attraction.
Asiimwe says that new strategy make Uganda host major events, conferences with a number of initiatives geared to attracting tourists.
