Makerere University confirms new fees structure

 

Makerere University Kampala has maintained its 10% tuition fees increment amid protests from parents and students.

Makerere University Council stands its ground and it has declined adjusting its heatedly contested new tuition fees structure. Makerere University recently announced its news fees policy, which entailed a 10% fees increment, which generated tension leading students to hold series of demonstrations in protest. At each of the demonstrations police was invited to calm the students’ violence.

The students later petitioned the university leadership to have the fees policy reversed.

However according to the meeting the university held on Thursday afternoon, Makerere University resolved not to reverse the new fees policy.

The news statement the university released after the meeting, the institution ruled that the new fees structures must stay on because the cost of living in Uganda is on increase.

MakerereUniversity spokesperson Ritah Namisango confirms that the new fees structure will remain.
