Government given an ultimatum of 60 days to resolve Bunyororo Issues

Youth from the oil rich Districts of Bunyoro have issued an ultimatum of 60days to government to address matters that concern the people of Bunyoro in regard to the discovery of oil in the Albertine Region.
The youth under the association of Concerned Youth from Bunyoro Region have raised a number of concerns brought about by the activities of oil exploration in the districts of Kibaale, Hoima, Kiryandongo, Masindi and Buliisa.
Among the issues raised in the petition include people in the oil rich areas being chased away from their land with little compensation, high levels of unemployment more-so the oil companies do not offer the indiginous people jobs, they only employ services of foreigners.
These youth have also expressed concern over the non representation of Banyoro on the recently constituted oil company and the oil authority yet they own the oil wells.
They have further advocated for a 30% share on the benefits from oil that is explored from the Albertine Grabben, proposing that government takes 25%, Ugandans 25% and the 20% for the future generation.
Ronald Kato Rwahirwe the lead petitioner, Johnson Mutumba and Betty Tusiime have therefore implored government through parliament to address these concerns before the situation goes out of hand.

In the same way Barnabas Tinkasiimire the Buyaga West Mp has promised not to support any government program that is against Bunyoro benefiting from oil which is housed in their region.
Tinkasiimire has further stresses that the people of Bunyoro have been over exploited by the oil companies and the government in terms of compensations and employment, thus calling upon government act immediately to their demands.

Meanwhile the speaker of parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has refuted allegations that the Albertine Region has no representation on the Oil Company and on the Oil Authority.
Kadaga noted that the appointments committee of parliament, among the members they approved to manage the Oil Company included two members from the Oil Graben, further clarifying that this Oil Graben stretches from Arur Land and not situated in Bunyoro alone, however promising that parliament will address their plight as required.
