Nasasira to advocate for tough laws on telcomunication companies

Government has finalized with the regulations and guidelines over the operations of telecommunication companies to protect Telecommunication users.

The ICT minister John Nasasira reminded lawmakers that after receiving several complaints by mobile telephone users, the Uganda Communication Commission embarked on designing regulations that would guard against unfair charges and unsolicited messages.

Appearing before the Finance Committee of Parliament, MPs that included the Kalungu West MP Joseph Ssewungu, Pader District Woman MP Franc Judith Akello among others expressed the exploitation of phones users by the telecommunication operators.

In the recent past mobile phone users have registered several complaints of unfair deduction of airtime, unsolicited messages among other irregulaties which telecommunication companies have not come out to explain.

Now whereas the minister partly blames the problem to people’s inability to use the new smart phones, Nasasira said that in addition to capacity building of UCC, the regulations would soon be presented to parliament.
