ID registration report released

A survey commissioned by CCEDU and executed by research world international reveals that the ongoing national ID registration process across the country has not met its targets with the anticipated registered numbers of citizens to get the IDs ranging between 9 to 14 million which is below the national task force target of 15 million.

Reading the findings, Patrick Wakida from research world international reveals that the process only targeted Ugandans but even non Ugandans were registered saying that 46% of the total registration were not verified with only 53% of the entire verification present at enrollment centers with 27% people sent away sighting under age and 61% had their age verified before registration.

The report further states that 7% eligible citizens were turned away adding that 15% of the enrollment centers started at 8am, 11% started between 10am and 12pm among other factors.

However, the chairman CCEDU, Dr. Livingstone Sewanyana wants the registration of persons bill 2014 enacted into law to allow the electoral commission easily uses the collected data for its profiling in preparation for the 2016 general polls.

Meanwhile, the legal manager of the ID project, Amanya Deborah and the head of secretariat at the ID project, Haji. Nsubuga Abdul say that over 15 million Ugandans have already registered noting that 15M cards have been processed.

Further the report recommends that EC responds to matters raised by political parties in regards to the coming polls, amplify the importance of the exercise, provide power back up to computers among other measures.

The nationwide exercise kicked off on 14th April 2014 in 8,000 parishes across the country.
