MPS opposed Kibwetere’s name to be a tourist product

A cross section of members of parliament have opposed a plan by Uganda
tourism board to ,use the leader of the lord’s resistance army Joseph
Kony , former late Ugandan president Idi Amin and Joseph Kibwetere as
Ugandans tourism product.

MPs who include Yahaya Gudoi for bungoko north mbale, maracha woman
representative Ruth molly Lematia and Apac woman representative Lucy
Ajok ,said that its not a good idea to use the proposed names by
tourism board auguring that the three leaders are associated with
negative history .

Maracha Woman MP Ruth Molly Odoru said that promoting the country s
image with people like the late Idi Amini will trigger bad memories in
people’s minds.

Lucy Ajok, the Apac woman district representative said, the board will have to
bring the matter before committee on trade, industry and tourism
committee of parliament for scrutiny.

Meanwhile Yahaya Gudoi suggested to the tourism board to use
people like the former president Militon Obote and Yoweri Kagutta Museveni
because they have greatly contributed to the development of the
country and their image is not so bad

Ugandans tourism board, the countries marketing board has stepped up
efforts to brand Uganda abroad as the best tour destination in the
region, in their new strategies it wants to use these leaders to
attract more tourists to the pearl of Africa.
