mps warns on child labour

Mps urged to press hard against child labour in the country which is reported to be on increase.
While addressing members of parliament on issues of child labour at parliament the secretary General of Uganda National Teachers Union James Tweheyo said that child labour has increased school drop out .
He said that parents mostly in rural areas retain their children at home for work like harvesting and planting crops and mis class and some permanently remain in the villages .

He reported that the number of children in child labour in Uganda has hit 2 million children
The woman member of parliament for Masindi district Jalia Bintu asked government to push for Mechanized agriculture to address the problem of child labor in the country.
She said that if farmers use tractors for farming child labour will reduce.
The member of parliament for Butambala county Muwanga Kivumbi criticized the labour unions in Uganda for failing their work of stopping issues like child labour .
He said that labour unions have become useless because have been swallowed by the government and can not do what are expected from them.
