New Anti corruption bill targeting private sector and NGOs is in offing

Government is bringing another tougher law against fighting Corruption in the private Sector including the Non-Government Organizations (NGOs).
The new proposed Bill is parallel to the current bill which was introduced by Makindye East MP John Simbwa in parliament.
The Non Conviction Based Asset Recovery in Cases of corruption Bill 2014 was initiated by government agencies fighting corruption which include; Ministry of Ethics and integrity, Director of public Prosecution (DPP) and Inspector General of Government,
The minister of Ethics and integrity Rev. Fr. Simon Lokodo revealed this during the Anti-corruption Amendment Bill Consultative meeting Organized by MPs under their umbrella; African Parliamentarian Network Against Corruption at Kabira country Club. Lokodo that says the Anti- corruption Amendment Bill 2013 introduced by Mp Simbwa is bureaucratic it follows the normal court procedures until one is proven guilty then property is confiscated but the new government Bill gives a chance to suspected person explain if government discovers that the person acquired the property through illicit means will be apprehended and asset taken by government.
He said that the Non Conviction Based Asset Recovery in Cases of corruption Bill 2014 is now at cabinet level any time will be tabled before parliament.
Lokodo says this Law is going to target individuals working both in government and NGOs and this will erase blame on government that it has failed to curb corruption.
He adds that this Bill will supersede the normal court procedures which is bureaucratic .
He says it’s unfortunate that corruption has infiltrated in most of the NGOs and asserts that NGOs supposed to do Humanitarian work but they declare 10% of their funding and they use the rest for their own gain.
