Imagine yourself in this beguiling lush country, where one can observe elephants and lions prowling the open plains in the morning, track chimpanzees or gorillas through the rainforest undergrowth the same afternoon and end up at a naturally ploughed sand beach on a lake with magnificent surroundings. The next day, you navigate tropical channels heaving with hippos, crocodiles and over a thousand different species of birds, before setting off into the misty mountains. This is Uganda, an enthralling country in East Africa with alluring attractions that make it an eco-tourism destination one should visit.

Uganda is unique in many ways. The country’s magnificent attractions vary from wildlife, including primates and non primates, insects, abundant bird life and cultural sites; to lakes, rivers and mountains.

In Uganda, one can enjoy riveting white water rafting and bungee jumping, gorilla and chimpanzee tracking in different forests, visit the source of the Nile (the world’s longest river), enjoy entrancing forest walks, bird watching, sport fishing, mountaineering as well as the serenity of Ssese Islands in Lake Victoria, the world’s largest fresh water lake.

This is in addition to cultural attractions of more than 33 tribes that make up Uganda.

The climate, too, is highly enjoyable, reflecting the combination of an equatorial location and medium to high altitudes, while amenities such as hotels and game lodges now rank among the very best Africa has to offer.

Uganda lies astride the equator. It shares boundaries with Sudan to the north, Zaire (DRC) to the west, Tanzania and Rwanda on the south and Kenya on the east. In size, Uganda covers 241,136 sq. km. of which 44,079 sq. km. is open water and swamp.

Most visitors to Uganda say that it is the most thrilling of holiday destinations, while those studying or intent on enjoying nature have found Uganda the best place to be in touch with nature’s most alluring and spell binding attractions in fauna, flora and landscape. But above all other features, it is the astounding welcome that comes from the heart of the Ugandan people who are among the most hospitable in all of Africa.

Aside from natural attractions, one can experience the mood of social enlightenment in Uganda characterized by the progressive and much lauded policies towards curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS and promoting women’s rights. No problem with language either. Although more than thirty different languages are spoken (Uganda being a result of the unification of ancient kingdoms, as well as many independent chieftains), English and Swahili are the official languages.

Once described by Sir Winston Churchill as the “Pearl of Africa”, Uganda has a variety of attractions in its vivid landscape, national parks and cultural sites spread throughout the country, making it the best destination to satisfy one’s adventurous appetite and relax in the country’s natural splendor.
