MPs discuss infighting of Ministers

Parliament

Some Members of Parliament said that it’s a shame that cabinet ministers fight each other on minor issues instead of serving the public to enhancement developments in the country. MPs’ clinical digest on alleged ministers in fighting follows press reports that President Museveni is to defuse tension within Cabinet that has led to friction between some senior and junior ministers in the ruling government.

Reports indicated that senior ministers are at loggerheads with their juniors over perceived lack of respect, absence of team work, monopolizing of trips abroad and assignments.

The MP Kyadondo East in Wakiso district, Ibrahim Semujju Nganda, said ministers should have been fighting for work in their ministries instead of trips

Makindye East MP, Kampala district, John Simbwa said that ministers’ in-fighting is also visible in Parliament during debate when ministers differ in the opinion on the floor. He said there is a lot of selfishness which is likely to affect the government work in Parliament and the country.

MPs said that these grudges and tension are created by the president because he meets and assigns junior ministers instead of their senior ministers.

In other news, the Chairperson of Parliamentary committee on Budget Amos Lugolobi said the Ugandan Shilling is likely to depreciate more if Uganda’s raw materials exported to other countries are not transformed into worthy products.

For the last one month, the Uganda Shilling has continued to weaken against the dollar. Commercial banks and forex bureaus sell a dollar at 3,424.90 shilling.

Lugolobi said that even the little products exported are substandard which make the dollar value so high. He said the situation should be addressed as early as possible to avert the high costs of goods and services affecting people.
