IGP kaihura grilled over blocking opposition rallies

Police chief Kale Kaihura has appealed to political activists to organize their rallies and meetings following the recently passed Public Order Management Act.

Kaihura said that whereas the opposition sometimes organize such meetings and involve the police as the law says, they have chosen to go against this law.

He said that whenever such meetings are organized without police’s involvement; it attracts police’s intervention resulting into confrontations.
Kaihura had appeared before the parliamentary committee on defense and internal affairs chaired by Benny Namuganya Bugembe to explain why police blocks political parties activists from addressing meetings and also talking on radios.
Kaihura explained not all rallies have been blocked but only those which are organized without following the law, saying there could be a deliberate calculation by the organizers to provoke police and portray it in bad light by violating the law at times.
