museveni warns on sectarianism

President Yoweri Museveni has reiterated government’s position of neutrality as far as cultural institutions are concerned and has also maintained NRM principle of zero tolerance to sectarianism.
The President made the remarks yesterday while receiving opposition converts from Kasese district who have crossed over to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The President, who is the National Chairman of NRM, received the converts, comprising mainly of the top FDC leadership in Kasese district, at his Rwakitura country home in Kirihuura district.
He reminded them that NRM restored cultural Institutions that had been abolished by the Obote regime and also brought about democracy in order to allow wananchi make their own decisions and choices.
Mr. Museveni, who welcomed the converts to NRM, called on them not to be diverted from the main challenge of eradicating poverty in their homes, but to concentrate on household income generating activities.
The President further reiterated government’s first principle of no tolerance to sectarianism and urged all Ugandans in general and the Rwenzori region in particular, to respect each other and live in harmony irrespective of their ethnicity.
He told the delegation that the current land issues prevailing in their area is only temporary matter as the country develops and shifts from agriculture to the industrial, services and modernization tempo.
Mr. Museveni encouraged members of Kasese delegation to embrace the 1995 manifesto plan that entails modern commercial farming adding that Army Officers will be deployed to all constituencies in the country to oversee the implementation of that plan.
