parliament names mps to probe standard guage railway saga

The speaker Rebecca kadaga has set up a seven man committee chaired by
Nakifuma county mp Kafeero sekitoleko to investigate the procurement
process of the standard gauge railway.

The committee follows a resolution by parliament to investigate the
claims that the process has been fraught with bribery and inflation of
the estimated project cost of $8b.

The matter came before the house following a motion by a section of
mps Wilfred Niwagaba,Theodre sekikubo and Barnabas Tinkasimire.

Other members on this committee include Max well Okwora of Maluzi county,
Ongaro obote of kalaki county ,Nyakikongoro Rose Mary Sheema woman mp
,Amuriat Oboi kumi county ,Xavier kyooma Ibanda north, Amero suzan
Amuria woman mp.

Among other things the committee will examine the contract signed
between the government of Uganda and Chinese company and the conduct
of Government ministers and officials involved in the process.

The investigations will last for 2 months and the committee will
report to parliament on 11th January next year
