New government unfulfilled pledges reach 185

The Parliament Committee on Government Assurance has published a new Report containing 185 unfulfilled government pledges made between February and December 2013.
The Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Wadri Kassiano (FDC, Terego) said the Leader of Government Business is expected to respond to the government assurances listed.
Rule 167(3) of the Parliament Rules of Procedure provides that the Chairperson of the Committee on Government Assurance and Implementation is required to make a statement on the status of implementation of assurances upon which the Leader of Government Business shall respond.
The government pledges include those made by the President during the State of the Nation Address made to Parliament at the start of the Fourth Session in June 2013.
The promises include eradicating malaria, which accounts for about 50 percent of outpatients and 20 percent of inpatients in Uganda.
The President also promised to recruit more women midwives to handle maternal cases.
He also promised to work on infrastructure development including roads, railways, electricity, waterworks and ICT.
The publication also has pledges made by various government ministers on behalf of the government.
