civil society asks mps to resume debate on divorce and marriage bill

Activists under the coalition of marriage and divorce bill have
petitioned parliament demanding the mps to complete the debate on this
bill and pass the law before its fourth session ends.

The petition attached with 500 signatures across the country has been
handed over to the speaker of parliament Rebecca kadaga.

The petitioners led by Rita Asilo from Uganda Women net work (UWONET)
state that since April 2013 the debate on this bill was suspended,
there is no clear plan to resume the business on the bill.

Asilo says that as civil society pushing for this law they have
provided alternative proposals for the clauses that were
controversial.

However kadaga in her response said that the marriage and divorce bill
is one of the program that has been saved for this session
