President Yoweri Museveni nature to improve on welfare.”

President Yoweri Museveni has called on the people of Uganda in particular and of Africa in general to have dominion over the earth by harnessing nature to improve on their welfare.

The President made the call during the annual National Thanksgiving Service that he and the First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni, hosted at State House, Entebbe. This year’s thanksgiving service was held under the theme “Righteousness Exalts a Nation but Sin is a Disgrace to any People.”

“Africa needs to address the material welfare of the people. If we could focus on welfare, it would help our people and the Churches,” the President said.

Mr. Museveni revealed that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Government has taken the necessary measures to ensure that homesteads in the whole country generate incomes. He cited the people in Europe who own small pieces of land in terms of yards which they call gardens and have plenty of food yet Africans who on average own land ranging from 3 to 4 acres per homestead but are not producing enough food.

Quoting the Holy Bible, President Museveni noted that in the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus said “Let your will be done on earth as in Heaven”. He, at this juncture, stressed that Africa has got more active Christians than Europe adding that we in Africa need to strive and ensure that we tap the land resources for our own benefit so that we live out our experience here on earth in clean, nice, peaceful and disease free as it is in heaven.

President Museveni congratulated the multi-denominational congregation for coming close to the end of the year. He told Christians and Muslims present and Ugandans at large that God made man and ordered him to have dominion over the earth and all creatures. He, therefore, reminded them to strive and control vagaries of nature here on earth.

The First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni, while presenting the closing prayer, requested God to accept the thanksgiving prayers of all the people. She prayed to God to bless Uganda and expressed thankfulness for the peace in the country and for the peace Uganda is enjoying with all the neighbouring countries. She also p prayed to God to give us the wisdom to do good adding “we thank you God for protecting Uganda from many diseases around that are around the world.” Mrs. Museveni prayed for the West African countries that have suffered from the deadly Ebola disease.

In his sermon, Mr. Jay Dangars, disclosed that thanksgiving days are very important and special. He called on the congregation to always thank God. He commended incredible progress that Uganda has attained since 1986 when the NRM took power. He urged on the people of Uganda to stick to the truth adding that it would set them free.
