President Yoweri Museveni has said that because of the arrogance of the white man, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has been ashamed as the case against President Uhuru Kenyatta has been withdrawn because of no evidence.
“African leaders through the African Union had advised the ICC not to prosecute a sitting President like President Uhuru Kenyatta but they refused to listen to their counsel. Next year I will move a motion in the African Union Summit for all the African countries to withdraw their membership from the ICC,” he said. The ICC has been accused of selective enforcement and Western imperialism towards African countries.
President Museveni who also congratulated the people of Kenya on their 51st independence anniversary celebrations was today addressing thousands of Kenyans at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, as they marked their country’s independence from British colonial rule.
The celebrations were attended by Presidents Paul Kagame of Rwanda, John Dramani Mahama of Ghana and the Vice-Presidents of South Sudan and the Comoros as well as delegations from the region.
In a keynote address of welcome to his guests and to all the people of Kenya, President Uhuru Kenyatta urged his fellow citizens to be united and remain tolerant as they focus on building Kenya to become a strong nation.He also called on them to stay strong to confront the internal and external enemies of Kenya adding that they should go an extra mile to rededicate themselves to the struggle and the fight against corruption and insecurity including tribal conflicts that have claimed many lives of Kenyans.
The President said the International Criminal Court (ICC) is “a threat to our internal reconciliation. He thanked Kenyans for praying for him when his case was still at the ICC. He called on the Kenyans to continue praying for the Vice- President, Mr. William Ruto who is still being sought to appear at the ICC.
He called for support and solidarity in the fight against terrorists who have attacked Kenya and killed many Kenyans adding that Al Shabaab and Al Qaeda have established their base in Somalia to destabilize Kenyans. He said that the Government of Kenya must enhance the ability to detect and trace the activities that cause insecurity in order to manage well intended attacks against Kenya. He reminded the people of Kenya that without security, development is compromised.
President Paul Kagame of Rwanda on his part congratulated the Kenyans on celebrating the 51st Independence anniversaries and he thanked President Uhuru for inviting them for the celebrations. He said that Rwanda will always be with Kenya and other East African countries in working for integration and development ventures.
