The Speaker of Parliament, Rt.Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has launched the Third Education Strategy in Kamuli .
Launch for Learning, is the new strategy which is set to provide food to schools by t parents, teachers and pupils in the schools in Kamuli in order to support the pupils’ performances in schools.
Supported by SNV, a non-governmental organization, this project gives technical support to the school communities, to help them get good yields which can be used to feed the pupils and teachers in schools.
The schools in which the programme is running are, Nawanende SDA Primary school in Bugulumbya sub county, and Namwendwa Primary School in Namwendwa sub-county.
The schools have now increased their student population, while Namwendwa Primary School has started a boarding section for upper classes, mainly because they have enough food for their school.
The Speaker said that no child can study well when he/she is hungry, and therefore it is very important that each and every body in the country emulates this in Kamuli to enhance pupils’ education in schools.
During the launch the Speaker commended the development partners the SNV-Connecting People’s Capacities, for all the support they are giving the communities in Uganda and Kamuli in particular.
The Speaker added that she is happy that Kamuli district had embraced the project and is ready to give support and to sustain the project to help all the schools in the district.
The Speaker added, that she had been informed that it is only the women who were fully involved in this project which is a bad reflection on the side of the men. She then called upon the men to equally involve themselves in support of their children’s education in schools.
Rt. Hon. Kadaga thanked all those parents who now appreciate the need of education in the area, and asked them to encourage others to join the struggle to educate their children.
The Speaker asked the parents to take home the skills learnt in the project and improve their homes in terms of feeding and economic empowerment.
She added that she had seen that the project could promote education and she was going to interest the education sector country wide to take it on.
